Emily and Bill Muir paintings

Emily Lansingh Muir  1904 – 2003

William Muir   1902 – 1964

This is a pair of paintings of saunas – the oil painting of women by Emily “Finnish Women’s Sauna”  and a watercolor of the men by Bill.  Their inspiration was from their trip to Finland in 1939 and recounted in her autobiography, The Time of My Life,  published in 2002.

These paintings are being sold as the pair, because, as the donor said, they belong together.

They are in matching frames with preservation glass.

Emily’s painting is 16 “X 18.5″

Bill’s painting is 20″ X 25”.

Telescope

Stargazers special!   The Meade 2045 is a highly portable, classic 4″ Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope manufactured in Japan in 1981.  The lens is 1000mm long and diameter 102 mm. for astrophotography;  it has an electric drive with automatic tracking of the sky.

Frederica Marshall painting “Twilight”

Watercolor batik of a herring boat at twilight, a cormorant on a mooring ball in the quiet evening.

Watercolor batik is a special technique – rice paper is crinkled and the pigment goes into the cracks in the paper fingers.

Toddler chair

The plans call it a “tiny” Adirondack chair. When our granddaughter was 9 months old, she knew it was hers.  The chair is designed for a person 3’ to 4’ tall; however, our granddaughter began using hers at 9 months, with a little help from her parents. The chair is a scaled-down classic Adirondack made from Maine pine.  Hannah’s chair was finished in a mixture of tung oil and pine-based mineral spirits and finished with a paste of beeswax and linseed oil, which preserves the beauty of the pine. An alternative is to finish the chair in genuine milk paint. As I make this chair for you, I’ll be making the next size up for Hannah.
